Scarf Design

2019

On a trip to South Africa, I particularly noticed the country’s national flower Red Protea, which has a significant and unique shaping you can interpret in many ways.
The flower has remarkable and dramatic approach and yet a very light, soft and suitable look, which I find interesting. The colour combination is very powerful and presence and gives the flower a positive energy and warm, which I wanted to transfer to my designs and combine it with a Scandinavian simplicity.

My first design is hand painted using the technique called Monoprint. The motifs are inspired by the stems of the flower head. The technique makes the scarf unique and personal because it is not possible, to make two scarfs exactly the same.
It is a light and summery silk scarf that can be worn both inside and outside.

In my second design, I have used a photo from my trip as a design element. The photo is converted to pixels and made in front/rear knitting stitches, creating a textured surface.
The scarf is knitted in a silk and mohair yarn to provide lightness, softness and warmth.
